I do not deny that good barrels may be made in Birmingham but I am convinced that there is nothing like the master's eye over a gun in every stage of its construction. For close and dangerous shooting I know nothing equal to the double-barrelled, smooth-bore gun. You can load it more rapidly, and handle it more quickly and dexterously, than any other, also at the same time sufficiently depend upon it for accuracy as far as sixty or seventy.
